When I taught school, the week between Christmas and New Year’s was always my favorite time. For me it was a quiet period of rest and reflection, taking a metaphorical deep breath between the hustle of holiday preparations and the immersion back into the classroom.

Retirement has changed that. Today I’m putting my feet up and watching the Seahawks and the Packers duke it out on the football field. Today I feel absolutely no guilt over not giving a moment’s thought to gearing up for mid-terms in a couple weeks.

Life is good, very good! Life will be even better if Seattle can leave Green Bay victorious. One can always hope!
