There was a “free breakfast” gathering the first morning at the condo, and we attended, already knowing that it was a ruse to get us to listen to the concierge’s pitch to book additional activities.

And book we did! In total, we dropped another thousand dollars on things we wanted to do while we were there, and had planned accordingly. Shannon, our concierge, turned out to be a delightful young woman, and I got to know her better over the course of our stay. But that first morning, when we won a “free” sunset dinner cruise in her drawing, we decided to take advantage of it right away.

The “cruise” was not much more than a floating dinner during a trip back and forth along the Lahaina waterfront, but it was, indeed, fabulous. Seated on the top deck of the boat, we enjoyed a 360-degree view. Our tablemates, from southern California, were entertaining in themselves, but there was also live music that well-suited the “mature” crowd on board. I caught myself humming along during many songs. Dinner at a leisurely pace—what a concept!

The weather fully cooperated, and we got to see our first sunset of the vacation while eating strawberry cheesecake in our shirtsleeves on a boat. Yes, that sentence has a weird construction, but you get the point!

Aloha! Stay tuned!
