While I took plenty of the “normal” tourist-type photos in and of Nashville, I also recorded things that just caught my attention for one reason or another. Things I might use later in a book. Things that sometimes make me shake my head and worry about my sanity. Things like a menu advertising “Shrimp and Grits.”

So today’s post is more about sights and sounds than it is about words. Today I’m giving you a short picturesque tour of the way my mind works. It’s not your average photo op, and I left LOTS of the usual postcard prints out, but enjoy it anyway! It’s all in fun!

“Musica,” is a bronze statue on a knoll in the center of the traffic turn-around at the end of Music Row. And yes, those are larger than life NAKED PEOPLE dancing to the beat of a different drummer.

“The Batman Building” towers above all others and is a true landmark of the Nashville Skyline.

Street musicians park their bottoms on most every street corner in the Honky Tonk area, where the neon saloon signs reign, and the likeness of Elvis is next to the all-things Jack Daniel’s store and across the street from BB KIng’s Blues Restaurant.

But there’s plenty of good old American history here, too. The Hermitage, where President Andrew Jackson’s tomb resides, and the five-star Hermitage Hotel are among the places adding class and dignity to the city.

And of course, The Grand Ol’ Opry… The building has piano keys arced across the front, and next to it, guitar frets are built into the architectural design.

But my heart belongs to the gritty downtown, second only to Bourbon Street in my esteem. Here is where the senses are assaulted, the sounds and smells mingling to electrify the total experience. It is here that musicians are drawn by the thousands, the Mecca of the Music world.
