If you want to delve into a really interesting comparative study, you might like to take a look at the 2011 baseball stats for the American League Seattle Mariners as opposed to the National League Milwaukee Brewers.
Or not.
Fortunately, I’m an equal opportunity baseball fan, and have a favorite team in each league. Seattle received my loyalty by default—I was born in Seattle. And I’ve been keeping an eye on Milwaukee since a previous Seattle franchise was moved there back in… well, let’s just say I was still in my 20s. Barely.
This year I am thrilled that my Brew Crew has won the central division of the National League. They are currently in the playoffs, and so far, I still have something to cheer about. As for Seattle, well, no two Mariners hit as many home runs as Prince Fielder this year, who, certainly not coincidentally, also won the All Stars homerun contest. And even Seattle’s pitching ace Felix Hernandez with 14 wins falls short of Gallardo’s 17 and Greinke’s 15.
So I’m crossing my fingers that my Wisconsin boys will go all the way. They’re not favored to take the pennant, but it’s always more fun to root for the underdog, cause you just never know. And on any given day, any given team can win any given game.
