On May 1st I wrote about my disillusionment with the year 2013. And immediately upon posting it, I thought about the flip side: What is there in this year to be grateful for?

It didn’t take long for me to make a pretty decent list of positives. While these gratitudes are not quite able to counterbalance the horrific negatives of the past few months, they do lessen the blow a little.

First and foremost, I’ve managed to lose a full 52 pounds since Christmas. I’ve exercised almost every single day, either in the pool or on my recumbent bike, and no surprise here, I’ve significantly lowered my blood pressure. And even my knees are giving me a little less pain.

Secondly, book number two of my mystery series is now in the incubation stage, resting comfortably for the next month somewhere between “pretty good first draft” and “totally ready to publish.”

So although it’s not all sunshine and roses (as in today’s picture), the year has had its bright spots, and I’m choosing to make a conscious effort to keep those positives closer to my heart than the really ugly stuff.

At least, that’s the plan…
