According to the Small Business Encyclopedia, “branding” is the marketing practice of creating a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products.
The Business Dictionary says branding is a success when the product becomes a household name and surveys indicate there is a loyal base of customers.
By putting vinyl “waves and water splashes” on my Scion, which I bought specifically to transport my growing inventory of authored books, I was attempting to think far enough outside the box that whenever someone sees my car about town, they’ll think of me, my books, and that they need to buy another good read from me.
That’s the plan. Particularly since my entire mystery series has a “coastal theme.”
So when you see me driving by in “Beau,” a homophone for the first syllable of my last name, and the name I gave my Bookmobile, be sure to WAVE back, and I’ll know I’ve succeeded—at least in part!
