I was in Jackpot, Nevada for a few days last month. It was a crazy month in the Nevada desert, weather-wise, with hailstorms and flash-flooding and a great deal of lightning and other special effects. I loved it.
I loved it so much I didn’t even mind when a four-inch covering of hail slid off the casino roof and slithered right on down my back. It’s only frozen water, after all, and I’m a totally drip-dry person, so there was no harm and no foul. I just laughed like crazy and scurried onto the shuttle bus for the short commute to another casino.
The third morning dawned crystal blue and promised a golden sunrise. I quickly pulled on my sneakers and took off for the highest point around. I wanted to be there when the sun crested the hills to the east. On my way, a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer zoomed past me. I could see two saddled horses inside the trailer, and wondered if they were on their way to “round up” some cattle.
A half mile later, the truck zipped by me again, back the way it had come. Before I got to my destination, the truck and trailer barreled by me one more time.
At this point it occurred to me that the “cowboy” in the truck was just out “taking his horse for a ride.” On the fourth pass, a little later that morning, I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. I waved; the cowboy waved back. The horses were both still in the trailer, saddled up and ready for anything.
Moments like that make me stop to appreciate the absolute joy in living. Today I invite you to find some unexpected joy in YOUR life, and totally relish it!
