It’s time again to lament the fact that I’ve not yet crossed off “go to the Kentucky Derby” from my bucket list. The race is Saturday. I’ve been following the horses, so to speak, via my TV set, and I’m eager to watch them run in the most touted sprint of all.
Someday I’ll be there in person. This year, as every year since I was nine, I’ll be there in spirit. Forget the flouncey hat, mint julep, and race binoculars. I’ll be singing “My Old Kentucky Home” at the top of my lungs right here in my rec room.
No scent of sweaty horses and roses for me this year, but it’s still on the list, and I haven’t kicked the bucket yet, so there’s still time!
