Besides being a bow with which to play the fiddle, “fiddlesticks” is often used as an interjection meaning “Nonsense!” or “Rubbish!”
And rubbish is just what my recent fish stick dinner tasted like.
Granted, my dinner came from a box of frozen fish sticks, but honestly, isn’t there supposed to be some form of recognizable FISH in there? Isn’t there some regulation that requires more than an ounce of fish hidden amongst 10 ounces of breading?
I don’t know why they don’t practice truth in advertising and label the box “fish-flavored batter.” Then at least I wouldn’t have been all set to enjoy some seafood that night. I feel ripped-off and dismayed that this company, with a reputable brand name, would produce such a poor-quality product.
Fiddlesticks! I’ll hurt ‘em where it counts— I’ll not spend another red cent of my grocery budget on their high-carb fish batter, even if it IS on sale!
