I know we all can’t celebrate the start of baseball season on the same day; at any given time, fifty percent of the teams are playing away from home. So in and around Seattle we must wait another week to see “our boys” take the field.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still mad as hell over some of the players’ poor choices during the off-season, but it will take more than some bad-boy arrests to come between me and those stadium garlic fries.
Baseball has been my favorite sport since… Well, as far back as I can recall. I don’t actually remember my first trip to the ballpark, but I remember the genuine Louisville Sluggers given away to the kids in the crowd on bat night.
So tonight the Seattle Mariners are “playing away” on the home field of the Oakland Athletics, and next Friday we take on the Cleveland Indians AT HOME. And that night, dear sports fans, will be the official start to baseball IN Seattle, 2011.
For those who don’t follow the sport, there are 160 games in a single season. I’m thinking 115 wins this year ought to be enough to send us to the playoffs. And you can bet I’m going to be celebrating—one winning game at a time.
PLAY BALL!
