I’m wearing it right now. Right this very minute. I like it because it sports a plethora of rainbow hues, which never fail to cheer me. This sweater has seen me through thick and thin, several times, and although it’s showing its age a little around the collar, I wouldn’t dream of giving it up.
I suspect we’ve all got favorite pieces of clothing, although some may not readily admit it, fearing any such dependence might conjure images of an infant clinging to a “blankie.”
I acquired my “lucky sweater” in the early 90s from a catalog that sold it under the auspices of “one size fits all.” Amazingly, it did.
Fortunately, big and baggy came into vogue, so when I lost weight, I still frequently donned my sweater to golf on chilly days, as it didn’t restrict my club swing as a jacket would have. I also wore it fishing, and clamming, and to many, many, baseball games.
For a time, it resided in my car trunk, to be pulled on if I was suddenly inspired to go for a walk on the boardwalk, or in case I got stranded somewhere between Point A and Point B without enough warm clothing on.
But today, I’m wearing it because I superstitiously believed it would jumpstart my creativity at the keyboard. And it worked!
