Not all writing critique groups fit all writers. Although I do find I can always get “something” out of any gathering of people who work to put thoughts intelligibly down on paper, I’ve come to accept that the organization of the group is almost as important as the content being discussed.
In the past five years, I’ve attended a half dozen different writers’ groups. I continue with only two, and one of those I created and facilitate myself!
We can’t “do it all,” and I find more and more that I must pick and choose how I want to spend my time. There are many, many, “worthy causes” that I support in my heart, but only a few I support with my time and/or contributions.
The world is a wild and crazy place, and I’d love to have more time to be involved in more activities. It’s that “lifelong learning” thing. I have an insatiable, almost compulsive drive to gather information. Which is probably why Google is my new best friend.
I probably wouldn’t get a gold star under “uses time wisely” these days, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I’m enjoying doing things I love, not things I feel I “should” do. Carpe Diem!
