Tomorrow is the first Tuesday of November. The first Tuesday of November stirs a certain deep-seated patriotism within me. I am thrilled that I get to help choose the future course of our country and manage its laws.
History shows us numerous instances where just a vote or two or three changed the outcome, and all be darned if I’m going to be the one sitting on the sidelines while someone else’s opinion sets the stage.
I used to love “going to the polls” extra early so I could be there when they opened. “Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The polls are now open!” actually gave me goose bumps!
One time in the Nahcotta precinct I was Number Two to vote. I knew the man who was ahead of me in line, and I knew his political leanings. When we finished voting and stepped outside, I said to him, “Early exit polls show Dukakis ahead with 100% of the vote.” He totally cracked up.
Voting is a privilege. I encourage you who have yet to vote to get off your hiney and do so. Get involved; be a part of the action. If you don’t vote, you can’t whine. It’s that simple!
