Today marks the Winter Solstice, and it has arrived none too soon. The days will start getting longer now, although we will most likely not notice much of anything until late next month.
I’m seriously affected by the lack of light. I long to pull the covers over my head and hibernate as soon as it gets dark outside. This, of course, is not all that conducive to getting much done. Try as I may, I can’t seem to get motivated without my daily dose of natural vitamin D.
I can’t imagine living in Alaska during the shorter seasons, but I know I’d love it in the summer. I took a cruise up there during July, 1989, and danced in the disco until 4 a.m. I had no idea it was so late—or so early—because it never got completely dark.
Today also marks the end of autumn and the start of winter. A new season, and in 10 days, a new year—it’s great to get “do-overs!” The first of any month, next Monday, a new year, they are all excellent times to reevaluate your goals and take stock of what you really want to leave as your earthly legacy. Yet there’s no waiting necessary—you can start right this minute.
Carpé diem! Let’s embrace today!
