I’ve had a two-frame comic strip posted on my desk bulletin board for decades. The date printed along one side says “King Features, 1988.”
In the first box, a studious-looking kid is sitting at a desk, with books piled all around. He says, “High school, college, grad school, internship, assistant—20 years until I become a functioning specialist.” His friend, who, quite frankly, doesn’t look all that bright, says, “Twenty years is an awful long time.”
In the second frame the first kid replies, “Twenty years is just as long if I don’t do it.”
And therein sums up an important truth. You can jump in now, or wait 20 years and wish you had jumped in way back then.
Your choice.
