I came across the word “aglet” the other day, and was stymied. I couldn’t derive the meaning from the context, which is highly unusual for me, so as I retrieved my trusty dictionary, I started musing about what the word “might” mean…

Aglet… A small bird, a baby Ag, similar to an eaglet, but not nearly as large
Aglet… A miniature Agricultural plot, usually farmed on city rooftops
Aglet… See Aglette.
Aglet… An omelet using ags in lieu of eggs, resulting in lower cholesterol

By this time I had found my answer, and I do admit with 100% certainty that I have NEVER used the word aglet before today. I didn’t even know there was a word for the item (it’s a noun) it names.

So I learned something new today… And you can too, if you want to take the time to look it up.  Or maybe you can get it from the context if you lace it through an eyelet.
