To say Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood is a bohemian district would be a world-class gross understatement. Fremont epitomizes the unusual and unique. For starters, all within a few blocks you’ll find a 7-ton statue of Lenin, an outdoor movie theater, and a gigantic troll sculpture residing under the Aurora Bridge. (Currently the troll appears to be dining on an inverted Volkswagon bug, but that could change any day.)
Fremont is an eclectic, artsy neighborhood of Seattle, billing itself as “the center of the universe.” The area is known for its offbeat and irreverent parades, parties and sidewalk art. It is host to an Annual Solstice Parade, this year including a belly dancer named Delilah leading the “Billion Bellies March,” which was partially choreographed, with some not-so-choreographed belly dancers from around the state (including several women from our very own Long Beach). And let us not forget the famous, raucous, and annual, nude cyclists’ parade…
Fremont’s motto is “De Libertas Quirkas,” or “Free to be Peculiar,” which quite aptly sums the place up!
