So about those one-act plays… As I said in my last post, I’ve gotten pretty good at writing short plays and skits. And last year I wrote a dinner theater mystery play which was performed in Imperial, Nebraska.
I’d love to try my hand at writing a full-length script, but I know I’m not quite there yet. So… what’s the next logical step?
I decided, logical or not, to take a step or two outside the box. For several years, our community theater has had trouble casting the selected Christmas play. Turns out not too many people are overly-anxious to spend every evening throughout November and early December rehearsing for a show.
So I put on my “what if” thinking cap and decided to write “A Christmas Trilogy of One-Act Plays.” All three plays have the same basic set, with a few prop changes, and each of the one-act casts would only have to rehearse one or two nights a week.
This satisfied my need to write “something longer,” and could also provide the playhouse with a viable option to their usual fare. I submitted my scripts to the Peninsula Players in February, crossed my fingers, and held my breath.
Three minutes later my fingers were cramped and my face was blue, so I decided to try “waiting patiently” without any discomfort.
Today I am thrilled, delighted, and tickled to my toes to announce that “A Christmas Trilogy” has been accepted for production in December, 2011! I’ll fill you in on dates and times when it gets a little closer, but for me, Christmas came really, REALLY early this year!
