he KALA Event Center is located at 1017 Marine Drive, in Astoria. It was so named because it is the home of Hipfish Magazine and Kala means Fish in Finnish. Dinah Urell, owner and editor of the magazine, told me so when she invited me to come share my holiday stories there next Thursday.
So on December 8, at 7 p.m. I’ll be there talking about, and reading from, my new holiday book, “It’s Christmas!” The holidays are officially upon us!
At this stage in the game, I’m pretty comfortable doing a live gig like this. At the Seaside Public Library last month, I was nervous as all get out. But as I spoke, I saw the smiles and nods and heard the laughter and murmurs of recognition, and it boosted my confidence just enough so that I relaxed and had fun with the audience.
Yesterday I was on “Arts: Live and Local” with Carol Newman, and she’s such a great interviewer that I totally forgot the microphone was there. What fun just to sit and chat with a friend about my plays and books!
So Thursday night at Hipfish, come on down prepared to be entertained! It’ll be a hoot! You might even have so much fun that you’d like to buy a dozen or more of my books to send to all your friends.
I’ll bring the books!
