Ocean Park residents Bob and Mary love Christmas. And Bob also loves fiddling with MacIntosh computers. Put the two ideas together and what you get is an amazing display Christmas lights programmed to dance and gyrate to upbeat seasonal songs.
It’s a tradition in my house to drive over to Bob and Mary’s at least once each December to sit in my car in their driveway and enjoy the show. By tuning the car radio to the specified station, it’s like being at an old-time drive-in theater.
I think Bob has a special fondness for the music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The pulsating Christmas lights intricately follow the rhythm and beat of such tunes as “Wizards in Winter” and “Carol of the Bells.”
The amazing light show has an energy that feels almost alive. If you’re old enough to remember the 60s, the word psychedelic aptly fits the performance. It makes you want to get out of your car and move to the music. I’ve never before wanted to boogie to Christmas carols, but after seeing Bob’s free show, I’m having second thoughts.
And speaking of “free,” there’s a container out front of Bob and Mary’s home for donations to the South Pacific County Humane Society. Donations for that cause are happily accepted; it’s their way of passing on the love.
So when you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by the abundance of “have to” activities of the season, put this one on your “want to” list. It’s the best way I’ve found to rejuvenate myself, and once-again delight in the true spirit of Christmas.
And if you don’t live anywhere near Ocean Park? Well then, feel free to start your own music and light show. I’m sure there’s room enough on the planet for a few more. Meanwhile, I’ll just count my blessings I live so close to the best single-home coordinated sound and light Christmas display show I’ve ever seen.
Thank you, Bob and Mary!
