My year, like pretty much everyone’s everywhere, was a mixed bag. On one hand, I had several more acceptances to Chicken Soup for the Soul; saw a one-act play hit the boards during the festival in August; had my 226 page book “It’s Christmas!” published; I continued writing my blog every other day all year; and I saw my best stage work yet, “A Christmas Trilogy: Three Holiday One-Acts,” produced at the River City Playhouse just a few short weeks ago.
But then there’s the other hand…
Chicken Soup “changed their mind” about two of my stories after permissions were granted; my beloved Christmas book sold only 105 copies of the 500 produced; my blog attracted only a scant number of regular readers; and the Christmas Trilogy played to far fewer audience members than anticipated.
So it’s time to re-group, re-focus, re-evaluate, and re-member that I’m only a few years into my writing career, and there’s still plenty of time to become both rich and famous. My name is getting out there, and having just been the first writer to submit TWO winning chapters for the “Love and Murder in Astoria” serial, I must be doing something right.
I’m in the process of deciding which of my writing activities deserve more time and attention, and which will go by the wayside, at least for now. By tomorrow I’ll have made some decisions, and I’ll share if you’d care to read along.
Until then…
