Diet is definitely a four-lettered word. I established that fact in a blog entry I wrote on January 21. So how am I doing on that resolution to lose weight, you ask?

Well, it takes time. And there are setbacks. There are good days and bad. There are so-called reasons, which are really just not-so-cleverly-disguised excuses. But the bottom line remains the same: I am committed to working my way, ever so slowly, toward my ideal fitness level at an acceptable weight.

In my blog entry of May 17, I had been six weeks without covert sugar. There have been a few “slips” since then, but nothing major. The baby has not been thrown out with the bathwater, so to speak. I try to choose healthy foods, and I continue to exercise three to five times a week for up to an hour each time.

The CHALLENGE seems to be that I’m “of an age” where taking weight off is a lot harder than separating eggs when you’re blindfolded. (You are welcome to think of a more suitable metaphor…)

The scale moves only a pound or so a week, and that’s not much of a payoff for being the poster child for healthy eating. Especially since I am absolutely sure I can still GAIN 10 pounds in a single weekend of bingeing.  (A theory I am determined not to test, thank you.)

So I keep putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that time takes time, and grateful every day that my “worst” health problem is one I can do something about. One day at a time.
