A male friend of mine joined an online dating service. After a time, he sent me an email, complaining that all the women who contacted him were hostile and negative. Being the good friend I am, I went onto the site to check out his profile.

His subject line read: “Where’s my cupcake?”

Now, seriously… my friend is middle-aged, same as me. Which means he’s at least vaguely aware of gender equality. So why hasn’t he figured out by now that women of substance want to be considered more than a light, sweet dessert?

Sometimes I’m just baffled as all get-out how some men have lived as long as they have without a clue as to how we women think. But then I remember that I don’t know beans about the way men think either, so I guess we’re all even.
